The South Shore Chapter of the Council of Canadians is presenting the film, Anthropocene: The Human Epoch on Friday, February 22, 7 to 9 pm, Central United Church Hall, 283 Lincoln St., Lunenburg.

Anthropocene: The Human Epoch is a cinematic meditation on humanity’s massive re-engineering of the planet. A documentary film by the award-winning team of Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and Edward Burtynsky, Anthropocene examines the ways in which human activities have become so profound that they affect the Earth more than all other natural forces combined — an unprecedented moment in planetary history. Through mining, agriculture, urbanization, CO2 emissions, or the pervasive presence of plastics around the globe, human influence is undeniably contributing to massive planetary changes. Indeed, these changes are so profound that the filmmakers assert that the effects will endure in geological time, leading to the idea that we are now living in a new epoch: the Anthropocene.

A moderated discussion will follow the screening.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome to help cover costs. Please join us for this visually stunning, thought-provoking, and important look at a critical moment in Earth’s history.
